On the show this Thursday: Nirvana Nevermind

This Thursday – 8th December 2011  LISTEN HERE!

Nirvana – Nevermind

Nevermind is the second studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on September 24, 1991. Produced by Butch Vig,Nevermind was the group’s first release on DGC Records. Frontman Kurt Cobain sought to make music outside the restrictive confines of the Seattle grunge scene, drawing influence from groups such as the Pixies and their use of song volume dynamics.

Despite low commercial expectations by the band and its record label, Nevermind became a surprise success in late 1991, largely due to the popularity of its first single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit“. By January 1992, it had replaced Michael Jackson‘s album Dangerous at number one on the Billboard charts. The Recording Industry Association of America has certified the album Diamond (over 10 million copies shipped), and the album has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.[1][2] Nevermind was responsible for bringing alternative rock to a large mainstream audience, and critics subsequently regard it as one of the best rock albums of all time

This is defiantly on Lee’s “favourite album list”! Every single track is a triumph and were pleased to be airing it on Thursday night! Please bear in mind that the album contains themes of an adult nature and features some subject matter that may offend those of a sensitive disposition.

On the show this Thursday: Billy Joel Innocent man

Thursday 18th November 2011  LISTEN HERE!

Billy Joel Innocent Man

Singer-songwriter Billy Joel has had a multi-award winning career, selling over 150 million albums and taking his music all around the world. His musical output has changed over his 40 year career, influenced by classical, Tin Pan Alley, blues, and rock and roll.

An Innocent Man” was released in 1983 and quickly became his best selling album from the 80’s, and one of the best albums of the decade and of all time. The album salutes the rock and doo-wop of the 50’s and 60’s, the music the Joel grew up listening to, and what would influence him to become a singer-songwritter himself.

The album has a vast genre of music contained within, ranging from good old Rock ‘N’ Roll in songs such as Tell Her About It and Uptown Girl to a blend of jazz and blues in songs such as Christie Lee and Easy Money. The album contains the inspired title track Innocent man a lament to the hurt and distrust caused from lost love.

Over all, it is an album worthy of a play on Album Legends, and as is quite often the case, the hidden gems are the songs which were never released.
